Prepares files and processes patent applications to obtain broadest possible protection for companys inventions. Prepares or oversees outside counsels preparation of AMEA R(amp;)D patent applications for filing in the AMEA /U.S. Patent Office and foreign patent offices. Work with project teams to ensure that inventions are documented.
The candidate needs to be a self:motivated individual skilled in Intellectual property law. It is preferred that a candidate has sound knowledge of patents, the patenting process, and experience with patent drafting. The candidate will be an integral member of a cross functional Customer Insights and Innovation team.
The individual should be a team player who is willing to collaborate and work in cross functional teams across geographies and cultures. Should be comfortable to work in a matrix organizational structure.
Key Responsibilities / Deliverables
: Work with Divisional Patent Attorney and project teams to ensure that invention disclosure forms are completed.
: Responsible for the preparation and prosecution of AMEA R(amp;)D patent applications in house and through outside counsel.
: Reviews status of outside Counsel work by meeting, communicating, and reviewing documentation ensuring the work, methodology, and costs meet the companys expectations.
: Participate and/or lead brainstorming sessions and other invention facilitation sessions.
: Facilitates the Patent Review Boards meetings by leading discussions, managing action items and delegating responsibility for follow:up items to committee members ensuring resolution of agenda topics.
: Assist in evaluation of patents and potential product infringement issues.
: Reviews third party patent portfolios as requested for possible acquisition or licensing analysis.
: Performing inventors interview
: Discussing the invention with the inventors to understand the technology domain (amp;) the scope of invention
: Support global legal team with the IP agreements.
: Drafting patent applications
: Claim drafting with its support in the specification for Provisional (amp;) non Provisional application.
: Discussing the draft application with US counsel.
: Initial focus on drafting Indian patent application. Later might involve drafting for PCT, EP and US patent application
: Role involves prosecution of Indian patent application.
: The role includes frequent communication and meetings with outside counsel (both domestic and foreign) to prepare and prosecute patent applications.
Academic Qualification and Experience
: Bachelors (or higher) degree in engineering (mechanical, biomedical, or equivalent).
: LLB with working expertise of 5:7 years in intellectual property.
: Diligent knowledge of patent drafting, filing and prosecution in India.
: Strong independent problem solving and analytical skills required.
: An excellent work ethic and the ability to work independently with minimal
: Ability to work effectively both in a team setting and independently, and manage multiple projects concurrently.
: A willingness to learn and adopt new methodologies and skills, and accept new challenges and responsibilities.
: Writing skills required to produce high quality technical reports.
: R(amp;)D / NPD experience in medical device industry is preferred.
: Excellent Communication, presentation and interpersonal skills with proficiency in English (verbal and written).
